the Pacific Northwest with a bow.\u00a0 Secondly, I was fortunate to have had some incredible mentors over the years and\u00a0I wanted to share my experiences\u00a0in order\u00a0to help\u00a0others\u00a0enjoy success.\u00a0 None of that is changing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #c0c0c0\">As you may have noticed throughout many of my posts, <span style=\"color: #3366ff\"><strong>Stan Woody<\/strong> <\/span>is a close friend and long-time hunting partner.\u00a0 If I have anything to say about it, that\u2019s not changing anytime soon either.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #c0c0c0\">Before I get into what <em>is<\/em> changing, allow me share a bit more about Stan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #c0c0c0\">We met back in college through a common friend who prompted the introduction by saying to me, <em>\u201cTom, as crazy about elk as you are, you two would hit it off \u2013 he\u2019s just like you, maybe worse!\u201d <\/em>\u00a0He was right.\u00a0 Stan and I met and it wasn\u2019t long before we were talking about all-things elk, and making plans to hunt together.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #c0c0c0\">A short time later, I joined Stan on a late-season muzzleloader elk hunt in western Washington.\u00a0 It was a tough go as we tried to penetrate the deep snow in my dad\u2019s old Ford pickup.\u00a0 In retrospect, it gave us lots of \u00a0time to talk and for me to prod Stan toward buying his first bow.\u00a0 As a mechanical engineering student Stan quickly figured out his new PSE compound bow and became deadly proficient in short order.\u00a0 Armed with his life-long deep understanding of big game and mastery over his new bow, he\u00a0developed his short game\u00a0quickly and filled his tags on a regular basis.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-3601\" href=\"http:\/\/www.outdoorblog.net\/pnwbowhunting\/2011\/03\/17\/change\/tom-ryle-stan-woody-idaho-elk-success-7x7-pnb-edit\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"color: #c0c0c0\">Over the years, our combined shared\u00a0love of\u00a0elk\u00a0and high ethical standards forged a foundational bond that has led to many shared hunts, jobs, challenges, and memories in the field.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"color: #c0c0c0\">Back in 1993 when I went to work for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jonescalls.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Wilderness Sound Productions<\/a>, Stan joined my quest to capture footage of the elusive Columbian Whitetail deer, Roosevelt elk, geese, and other wildlife.\u00a0 Everything we did was an adventure, a memory.\u00a0 A couple years later while I was living in Colorado, Stan called to tell me about an Industrial Design job opening at his employer, Pacific Design Engineering (PDE) in Oregon.\u00a0 On his word, I dropped everything and moved back to Oregon where he and I again teamed up to design\u00a0products for PDE clients, one of which was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.intel.com\" target=\"_blank\">Intel Corporation<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"color: #c0c0c0\"><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-3611\" href=\"http:\/\/www.outdoorblog.net\/pnwbowhunting\/2011\/03\/17\/change\/tom-stan-pnb-edit\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-3611\" left\"><span style=\"color: #c0c0c0\">Eventually, we were both offered positions with Intel, which we both accepted.\u00a0 And though my job took me back to my home state of Washington, we still got together annually to quench our passion for bowhunting elk in the high country of eastern Oregon and the coastal rainforests of both Washington and Oregon.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"color: #c0c0c0\">As product developers, we are both\u00a0very\u00a0selective about the products we choose.\u00a0 We\u00a0both align our equipment\/gear choices with companies that are proven innovators and investors in high-quality, no frills products that endure the abuse served upon them.\u00a0 But there are always gaps.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #c0c0c0;font-size: medium\"><strong><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-3607\" href=\"http:\/\/www.outdoorblog.net\/pnwbowhunting\/2011\/03\/17\/change\/stan-sheds-pnb-edit\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-3607\" src=\"http:\/\/www.outdoorblog.net\/pnwbowhunting\/files\/2011\/03\/Stan-sheds-PNB-edit-533x400.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"533\" style=\"color: #c0c0c0\">In most circumstances good ideas are born from neccesity.\u00a0 This usually occurs at that single moment\u00a0in time when you realize there is an un-met need to serve.\u00a0 Unfortunately,\u00a0in the hunting world these situations can quickly sour your hunt or at the very least leave you wondering why nobody\u00a0makes &#8220;this&#8221; or &#8220;that&#8221;.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #c0c0c0\">Many years of late night talks in camp,\u00a0squinting into each other\u2019s headlamps about our own ideas\u00a0have finally culminated into a new business venture for me and Stan.\u00a0 We recently launched <strong>FreshTRAX, Inc.<\/strong>, an outdoor-oriented product development company focused on consulting services and\u00a0developing innovative branded solutions, primarily for the hunting industry.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-3628\" href=\"http:\/\/www.outdoorblog.net\/pnwbowhunting\/2011\/03\/17\/change\/logow1_red-pnb-edit-2\/\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #3366ff\"><strong><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-3629\" href=\"http:\/\/www.outdoorblog.net\/pnwbowhunting\/2011\/03\/17\/change\/logow1_red-pnb-edit-2-2\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-3629\" style=\"color: #3366ff\"><strong>In simple<\/strong><strong>\u00a0terms, FreshTRAX\u00a0is a head-on collision between a combined 40 years of experience in product design &amp; development and\u00a050+ years of successful hunting\/bowhunting, and outdoor sports experience!<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #c0c0c0\">With the formation of our company, it is fitting to introduce Stan here because in the coming weeks <strong>Pacific Northwest Bowhunting <\/strong>will become the voice of <strong>FreshTRAX Outdoors<\/strong>.\u00a0 Very soon the appearance of this blog will be changing to reflect this re-branding but rest assured,\u00a0Stan and I\u00a0are joining forces to bring you even more great content from the perspective of both Washington and Cathlamet, Washington, a small town nestled between the Willapa Hills and the Columbia River.\u00a0 His father worked for the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) where they lived on site at a\u00a0steelhead hatchery deep in the game-rich Elochoman Valley.\u00a0 Naturally, he grew up hunting and fishing with his dad as it all started just a short hike out the front door.\u00a0 Hunting wasn\u2019t reserved for a week each year; it was an integral part of his life, and Stan often skipped school hoping to get another crack at that elusive buck or bull.<a rel=\"attachment wp-att-3603\" href=\"http:\/\/www.outdoorblog.net\/pnwbowhunting\/2011\/03\/17\/change\/olympus-digital-camera\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-large wp-image-3603\" #c0c0c0\">Over the past 20 years, Stan has worked and played in some of the most rugged outdoor backcountry locations across the U.S. including Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Yellowstone National Park, Yosemite National Park, and the extreme conditions of Bristol Bay, Alaska.\u00a0 Additionally, he\u2019s traveled extensively to countries all over the world, including Israel, Turkey, Malaysia, China, Canada, Taiwan, Japan, England, and many others.\u00a0 Even though Stan loves traveling and new adventures his roots always\u00a0pull him back to his passion\u00a0for bowhunting elk, blacktail deer, and bear\u00a0in the Pacific Northwest.\u00a0 Stan is one of the most consistently successful bowhunters I know today.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #c0c0c0\"><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-3600\" href=\"http:\/\/www.outdoorblog.net\/pnwbowhunting\/2011\/03\/17\/change\/stans_bull-pnb-edit\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alike, and even guided many archers to their first shot opportunities on mature Roosevelt bulls \u2013 <em>at no charge!\u00a0<\/em> I mention this to illustrate his character and selflessness in order to help others enjoy success in the field.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #c0c0c0\"><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-3640\" children; Ashley (8), Hailey (6) and Hunter (2) \u2013 all of whom have a full-time bowhunting mentor in their father.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #c0c0c0\">Stan still works full-time as an Engineering Manager for Intel Corporation (15 years).\u00a0 He is also a product design and engineering consultant, Beta Program member for Columbia Sportswear, and recently joined the Field Staff for
