This week we are talking to Robert Millage of Kamiah, Idaho. Robert is a hunter and angler and also has the distinction of taking the first wolf in Idaho during the 2009 season. He also owns and operates a hunting website and sales real estate.
Dave: Robert, what got you into the sport of hunting and fishing?
Robert: I grew up doing it, 5th generation Idahoan, family has been living and hunting Idaho since it was a territory. Hunting and fishing is what we did for vacation and also for food.
Dave: What kind of hunting and fishing do you do and where do you like to hunt?
Robert: I grew up doing most all of it, and still do. I hunt and fish year round, always something open or in season for me. January is predator hunting, February is predator hunting, shed hunting and steelhead, March the same as February, April gets into bear, turkey and looking for mushrooms, May bear and mushrooms, June-July-August camping, cutthroat & bass fishing, high mountain bakcpack trips, Sept-Nov is big game archery, rifle hunting, December is Upland birds, waterfowl..etc…do it all pretty much
Dave: Robert you took the first wolf in Idaho. What was that hunt like?
Robert: The hunt was great. To find a pack of wolves howling, then go in and set up several hours before daylight, and have them howl around you while you wait for daylight was an intense experience. Since I was hunting solo (and to call one into about 30 yards) doesn’t get much better for a predator hunter. You can get all the hunt details from the article I wrote on my website if you want.
Dave: You run a outdoor website. Can you tell us a little bit about it and where can it be seen?
Robert: I started a blog a few years ago as a place to post all the photos from my friends and my outdoor adventures, www.idahooutdoors.blogspot.com. After a couple years of posting material it grew to a point that we needed to have an actual website to better organize what we do and to take things to another level. So my friends and I started Outdoorsman’s Pursuit Magazine www.outdoorsmanspursuit.com the first of this year. It has since taken off and grown rapidly, with content coming in from hunters all across the country and globe.
