The Redmond Running Club, The Foot Zone, Rebound Physical Therapy and the RAC put on an amazing Good Form Running class last night. I learned some amazing techniques about running and how to keep the injuries to runners down. It seems so simple to just go our and run, but really there is a lot you should know before you go out and do it. Really, for a beginner like myself, this helps so much in learning good form from the beginning and being able to fix your shortfalls before you make them a bad habit.
Good shoes are important and the staff at Foot Zone are such a great help. They really watch the way you walk and run, and get you into a proper shoe. Their staff is very knowledgeable and really makes you feel as though all your questions are important.
Dan Edwards, of the Redmond Running club, did a wonderful job in organizing this talk. I know everyone that was able to make sure appreciated everyone’s time and effort.
Just going out and running is fun, but there is so much more to think about. Making sure you don’t heel strike and land mid foot is so important and definitely brings down the chances of injury. Thinking about your stance or form is so important too. Getting those hips under you and well aligned is hard to think about when you are running. Last, cadence is so important-the number of foot strikes in a minutes time. The more foot strikes, the more likely you can improve you form because you won’t have time to make such large strides.
There really is such a science behind running and the studies are endless. If you have time to take this class it is very beneficial and could help you improve your form, and ultimately help save yourself from injury. Hey, maybe it will help you improve your time.
