Days 2

What we were using.

Well the last few days we have spent our time doing a little fishing. On day two we hit up a local pier that we heard had some frying pan sized sea mullet coming out. We got there a little later then what we should have but we set up shop and started fishing. It took us a little while to figure out what the fish wanted but soon we where catching them left and right. We were using something on our hooks called Fish Bites in bloodworm scent along with a piece of shrimp. This was the golden ticket for the sea mullet that day. We never did get into the “frying pan” size ones, but then again my buddy has high standards like I do when to comes to fish like these. I would call

Souther Kingfish AKA "Sea mullet"

sea mullet the yellow perch of the ocean. They’re suppose to be just has tasty and are basically the same size. You use the same type of rig that you use for yellow perch to catch them.

Spot

We got bored catching undersized sea mullet so we went on back to my buddies place and loaded up the boat. We started out fishing in one of the local inlets. We wanted to find some flounder. We checked a few spots but couldn’t find anything and the boat traffic made it impossible to fish some areas. So we went to a more protected area that had a fair amount of current. This spot is a know flounder area, but we didn’t catch any there. Instead we caught a bunch of spots and some toad fish(toads are some very ugly fish). We got a report over the phone of some drum being caught so we kept some of the spots for bait ,for the next day. We called it quits when the tide stopped moving water. On our way back to the launch we caught some finger mullet for bait for tomorrow also(not the same thing has sea mullet above).

Day 3

My 1st Redfish

Day 3 had us in the boat again we waited until almost dead low tide so that we could find some more bait that was trapped inside some sand bars. We spent about 2 hours collecting our bait for the afternoon. We had a mixture of Squid, Clam, Hermit Crab, Mud Minnow, and the stuff we caught yesterday. Once we had enough bait we started looking for some of the deeper holes and some humps. Once we found a few we anchored up and began

rigging our rods. We set 4 rods outs all with different types of bait on them. Quickly we got a few very hard runs on the squid and the mullet but we couldn’t hook up with them.So we made a quick rig change and set back the rods again this time it was game. This little redfish hit like a ton of bricks. This was my 1st ever redfish I was pumped to take another fish species off my list of fish I want to catch. Cut mullet seemed to be the bait of choice for us.

Slot Redfish

We ended up running out of them so we had to pull up anchor and find some more of them. It was now high tide and it made it super tough to find bait. We did ended up finding some more bait after a little searching and we set back up and went straight back to catching fish.  We didn’t light the world on fire in terms of fish numbers but we had some nice fish come out. We only had one fish all day that fit into the slot limit so that one made the fish box.

Pretty much all were this size just out of the slot.

One of two that where subslot sized.
